An earthquake surprised Independence High student at 11:42am with a shocking 5.1 magnitude. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the hills of Seven Trees, but the shaking was felt throughout the city.
Ms. Helmer, Marine Biology teacher at IHS, says “It was great! We just did [a unit on] tsunamis, so I felt it related [and] we were all talking about stuff that had to do with earthquakes.”
Students could hear rattling and shook in their desks or out in the fields during their 4th period. It lasted for less than a minute, but the talk lasted until after school.
